About

The Turkish Standards Institute was established on October 16, 1954, under the bylaws prepared by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB). The Institute was accepted as a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on May 26, 1955, and of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on January 1, 1956. The "Regulations on the Application of Turkish Standards" were published as a Council of Ministers Decree in the Official Gazette dated December 4, 1959, and numbered 10372, thereby establishing a legal basis.

The Turkish Standards Institute completed its establishment with Law No. 132 dated November 18, 1960, with the aim of creating standards for all kinds of materials and products, as well as procedures and services. The relevant ministry for the Institute is the Ministry of Industry and Technology. The Institute is a public institution with legal personality, governed by private law provisions, and its short name and trademark is TSE. This trademark is displayed in various forms. This trademark cannot be used in any form or under any conditions without the permission of the Turkish Standards Institute. Only standards accepted by the Turkish Standards Institute are designated as Turkish Standards. These standards are voluntary and may be made mandatory with the approval of the relevant ministry. For a standard to be made mandatory, it must be a Turkish Standard. Mandatory standards are published in the Official Gazette.
