About
Turkish National Observatories, as our country's largest basic science investment, within the scope of the "Law on Support of Research Infrastructures" No. 6550; It was established in partnership with Atatürk University and TÜBİTAK, with the status of "Advanced Research Infrastructure", with its new structure that will create the space sciences ecosystem by receiving qualification on "25 April 2023". At the same time, it is the first "Joint Research Infrastructure" within the scope of Law No.
6550, which will further contribute and serve the studies in the field of space sciences in our country and add a new dimension by supporting its strong infrastructures with current technologies. The basic infrastructures of this strong partnership are the "Eastern Anatolian Observatory" (DAG), which was established in 2024 and will be opened in 2025 within the "Atatürk University Astrophysics Research and Application Center" (ATASAM), and the "TÜBİTAK National Observatory" (TUG), which has been serving nationally for years. Turkish National Observatories, as an advanced research center with its headquarters in Erzurum and its support office in Antalya; Especially in space sciences, the "Eastern Anatolian Observatory" (DAG) in Erzurum and the "TÜBİTAK National Observatory" (TUG) in Antalya constitute the largest and most comprehensive research infrastructures of our country on astronomical observations.
In addition, with the infrastructure of the "Optomechatronics Research Laboratory" (OPAL) planned to be established in Erzurum, qualified and competitive studies will be accelerated in the near future with R&D studies and products in the field of optical technologies and focal plane devices. With the vision of Turkish National Observatories to be a globally innovative, competitive and pioneering research infrastructure in space sciences and optical science and technologies; It aims to carry out scientific research activities on astronomical observation services, space situational awareness observations and space weather, organize science - society events, and develop large-scale optical systems needed by our country through R&D activities in optical science and technologies. Turkish National Observatories, with its strong infrastructure, will continue to serve as an internationally competitive and preferred research infrastructure for many years, with new optical technologies and focal plane devices to be developed within our country's space science research, which will provide the opportunity to work on current issues in the world.
